I had an appointment for an initial consultation to register with Dr. Amine Mouloua and waited about an hour past my scheduled time to be seen. From the beginning, the interaction with the doctor was uncomfortable. He repeatedly questioned me about my occupation despite me clearly stating on the intake forms that it was private/freelance. When I explained that I wasn’t comfortable sharing further details, he continued to push. He then asked whether I have or have had any diseases. I answered no, and asked if he meant disorders, at which point I mentioned past mental health diagnoses from over 10 years ago. These are not current concerns, and I am not seeking mental health care or medication. My reason for the visit was to establish a family doctor and address an autoimmune skin condition. After this, the doctor abruptly stated that he “could not be my doctor,” without providing a clear or professional explanation, despite my repeated attempts to understand why. He continued to say he couldn’t “follow up for that,” even though I was explicitly stating that mental health was not the reason for my visit. The conversation became confusing and felt defensive rather than clarifying. Eventually, he opened the door indicating the appointment was over. I immediately spoke to the front desk staff to explain how baffling the situation was. After one of them spoke with the doctor, I was told that he had changed his mind and would take me on as a patient, or that I could choose another doctor at the clinic. No explanation was given for the initial refusal, which was very frustrating. The front desk staff were kind, professional, and did their best to mediate the situation, which I appreciated. One staff member suggested that a language barrier (French being the doctor’s first language) may have contributed to confusion between the terms “disease” and “disorder.” However, this distinction is extremely important, especially when discussing mental health, and using these terms interchangeably can be harmful and irresponsible. Although the doctor later agreed to take me on as a patient, the experience left a very sour impression. I will be waiting to see a different family doctor instead. Overall, it felt like a waste of time and could have been avoided if my intake forms had been properly reviewed prior to the appointment.

Very satisfied with my service. Staff and doctor were quite friendly, and seemed to manage the waiting room/line-up in a fair and effective manner.

I am excited about this new pharmacy and medical clinic in the downtown. Owner-pharmacist, Remon Megaly, is welcoming and very service-oriented. He went out of his way to make sure I was able to see the doctor even though there were no appointments available. He saved me a trip to the hospital emergency room. Dr. Fagbolagun was courteous and efficient. Thank you both and welcome to our neighbourhood.
